Back in 2015 Madonna somewhat surprisingly revealed during a sit-down with Howard Stern that she had once dated the late Tupac Shakur. While speaking, Stern grilled Madonna about a relatively controversial interview with David Letterman dating back to the 1990s. The pop legend in turn blamed her behavior on a relationship with Tupac, saying, “I was dating Tupac Shakur at the time, and the thing is he got me all riled up on life in general. So, when I went on the show, I was feeling very gangsta.”
Since then, many have remained skeptical about the depth of their relationship, speculating it was merely a fling. Now, however, a recently-surfaced love letter from Tupac to Madonna details their romance, as ‘Pac penned the note, dated January 15, 1995, at 4:30 a.m., while in prison at the Clinton Correctional Facility.
“First and foremost, I must apologize to you because, like you said, I haven’t been the kind of friend I know I am capable of being,” he wrote. “An interview where you said ‘I’m off to rehabilitate all the rappers & basketball players’ or something to that effect those words cut me deep seeing how I had never known you to be with any rappers besides myself. It was at this moment out of hurt & and natural instinct to strike back and defend my heart & ego that I said a lot of things.”
A portion of the letter has been redacted, but the late rapper then went on to add, “Please understand my previous position as that of a young man with limited experience with [an] extremely famous sex symbol.”
The note ultimately concluded with a visitation request. “I don’t know how you feel about visiting me but if you could find it in your heart, I would love to speak face to face with you. It’s funny but this experience has taught me to not take time 4 granted.”
Now, the famed letter is scheduled for auction at Gotta Have Rock and Roll. The starting bid is a mere $100,000 USD.
Just last year we saw a love letter penned by Tupac during high school selling for $35,000 USD.
